Great radio, bad clock and a big bug!
Review Date: August 11, 2010
Reviewer: GeoffR,
I agree with all the other reviews that the radio is great, the features are great, but the clock is appalling. If you want to be woken up at the right time in the morning, either set the alarm for two minutes before you want to be woken, or turn the power off at the wall each night before you go to bed. Don’t worry, your station settings and alarms etc are saved.
BUT…
there’s a major bug that I’ve found, and it is the same on two different radios that I’ve tested. If you turn on the radio using the snooze function for 15 mins before you go to sleep at night, if the end of that 15 minutes spell goes ‘over the hour’ indicated on the clock, then the radio has a strange ‘fit’ a few minutes after it is supposed to have turned off. The minutes remaining countdown goes down each minute until they get to zero, but instead of showing zero, a strange character now appears instead, and the radio seems to mute itself but not turn off; you can still hear that it is running as there is a faint buzzing. After a few minutes, the radio then turns itself on at the same volume as you have set for your next alarm.
This is not welcome if you have just fallen asleep…
Two radios – identical fault. Try it on yours!!

Reviewer: Easy riser,
I replaced a 30 year-old Ferguson – still going strong with good sound but the on/off switch had failed. I already have a PURE DAB radio in the house which is OK (placing is critical for signal) and was attracted by the specification of the Tempus 1S. As a clock radio it is excellent – easy to set up, clear sound (Classic FM to wake to!) and a nice feature is the display which automatically dims to an unobtrusive green at night from the bright daytime display. No criticisms whatsoever.
Beware – mains only

This radio has no battery; it has to be plugged in, unlike the Pure Evoke 1S which is therefore a much better buy. I regret buying this particular model. It makes no sense for a small, light radio to be tied to a power socket. It is destined for the recycling bin.
Pure Tempus-1 SW upgrade a nightmare
Review Date: July 12, 2010
Reviewer: Watchdog2003,
Yesterday using Pure website downloaded instructions and software Tempus v1.4. Attempted software upgrade from v1.3 to v1.4. Followed instructions exact, connected DAB Radio using short USB cable and in turn used three separate desktop pc’s. The desktop pc’s environment and hardware variable from XP, Vista Ultimate and Windows 7. All three pc’s failed to install the “Frontier Silicon FS1010 device driver”. Checked USB hardware types and here USB2 and USB1 connections failed. Eventually I gave up trying.. PS The DAB radio crackles a lot whenever positioned anywhere near other home wireless device
Digital Radio as it should be…

This is a classy, well made, good looking and great sounding radio. I particularly like its retro look, which contains up to the minute digital technology.
It is easy to use, and has lots of great features.
I particularly like the snooze handle…no more fumbling for a tiny button, just a light touch is all that’s needed.
